19 December, 2018; Earthquakes in Mexico

Your hypothesis:

If an earthquake were hit a place that was not very populated, then the earthquake will be less deadly because there would not be a lot of people or building around .

Table Hypothesis:

If the earthquake was to hit a place with less people and not as many tectonic plates, then the earthquake will be less deadly because the earthquake would have a less magnitude

14 December, 2018; Alternative Energy Socratic Seminar

After thorough investigation on the issue of increased CO2 emissions due to the burning of fossil fuels from creating our energy, it is clear that we need to take steps now to revise our energy plan to decrease the amount of greenhouse gases we are releasing into the atmosphere. While many argue that it will cost a lot of money and effort to turn the US or the world into using either solar energy or hydro, it may be worth it at the end of the day because some places have a lot of either water or solar radiation due to the climate change. For instance, the website Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy states that using water as part of our main source of energy is beneficial because it would be a “…domestic source of energy allowing each state to produce their own energy without relying on international sources.” This corroborates with using hydro as one of our main sources and further aligns with my belief that because some places have an excessive amounts of water, they can go and use that to their advantage and try to make it a key source of their energy supply. Using the resources that they have can help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions due to not burning fossil fuels for our energy. This evidence highlights shows that even though climate change is not a very good thing for us or the planet, we can use what it is giving us, like sea level rise and solar radiation, to our advantage (solar and hydro energy). Despite the validity of ___’s claim that it will be hard to change the US or even the globe into one of these energy plans, they miss the mark when it comes to it being a better option for us in the future because they claim that they will have to give training to more people and due to them not wanting to change what they already know works, they are very stiff on where they want to stand. For these reasons, it is critical for us to revise or make a proper energy plan to help save the planet and be able to keep our planet as is or make it better.

12 September, 2018; A Debt to Nature

“We still think of air as free. But clean air is not free, and neither is clean water. The price tag on pollution control is high. Throughout years of past carelessness we incurred a debt to nature, and now that debt is being called.”

Evaluate our debt to nature. Use what you know about the state of the environment now, and the state of the environment in the past (as read in the article) to describe how our debt to nature has changed.

  • I believe our debt to nature is a little better than before but we still have a lot we can fix. Although we are trying to put back what we taken in the past but, by doing so  we have also placed many things that could still harm our environment.

7 September, 2018;  How Science can unify a fracture world

If today was the first time anyone had ever seen Earthrise, describe how you think the experience would be similar to that of 1968. How would it be different?

  • If today was the first time anyone has ever seen Earthrise, I think that the experience would make everyone view how they live everyday differently. In the article “How space travel can unite a fractured world,” it stated that this accomplishment made many transform their imagination and inspired many people. I believe that it would be the same today. There are so many people today in this world that are either so talented and smart but they are not inspired enough to do something today.

5 September, 2018; The beauty of the total solar eclipse: then vs now

Explain (details + reasons) why current total solar eclipses don’t have the same level of mysticism surrounding them. Use two specific examples from the article to support your claim.

  • The reasons why the current total solar eclipses don’t have the same level of mysticism surround them because they are now able to be predicted and we are more educated about them. People don’t have a big reason to watch it anymore because there are images and we know what needs to be known about them.
